MKV7 GTI Oil Pan Replacement

It’s maintenance time and the smart thing at this point is replacing the plastic oil pan with a steel one.

Why Replace the Oil Pan?

The stock oil pan in the MK7 GTI is made of plastic, which can be vulnerable to damage. Upgrading to a steel oil pan provides better protection and longevity because is is more robust and resistant to impact, reducing the risk of damage.

Checklist:

• Steel Oil Pan
• T30 Torx M6x16 Bolts: Replaces the longer plastic pan bolts.
• Shouldered Nuts: Optional; we can reuse the old ones if they’re in good condition.
• Dirko Black Silicon Sealant (70ml)
• Liqui Moly 5w-40 (6qts)
• Oil filter with O Ring
• Engine Air Filter
• Cabin Air Filter

Step-by-Step Guide:

• Drain the Oil:Remove the belly pan and drain the oil from the plastic oil pan

• Disconnect the Oil Level Sensor: Unplug the oil level sensor connector and remove the oil pan bolts.

• Swap the Sensor: Pry off the plastic oil pan and transfer the oil level sensor to the new steel pan.

• Prepare the Surface: Clean the mating surface on the engine block and apply a thin bead of sealant to the steel pan.

• Install the Steel Pan: Torque the bolts in a cross pattern to secure the steel pan. Tighten the sensor nuts and.. F&$%ING H#%!!!!

• Install the Original Plastic Oil Pan: Torque the bolts in a cross pattern to secure the plastic oil pan because there was nothing wrong with it to begin with. Plug the sensor back into the old plastic oil pan. Tighten the sensor nuts and the drain plug. Change the oil filter, fill oil to recommended level, replace the engine and cabin filters.

• Check for Leaks: Start the engine and check for any oil leaks. Drive around the block.
• Check under the car: We left our magnetic parts tray under there.
